mtx wrong display

Mark,
Whenever I start the MHVTL, the first time I type mtx, it will display only two tape drives. I type mtx second time, then the display is correct.
[root@MHVTL ~]# logger "MTX 1st"
[root@MHVTL ~]# mtx -f /dev/sg8 status
  Storage Changer /dev/sg8:2 Drives, 10 Slots ( 0 Import/Export )

I have seen before, dependent on how fast your system is, it will take few more seconds for mhvtl daemons to be fully initialized .. This is normal. Does it sound like the case here ?

Thanks for your prompt reply. I tried it again and waited for 10 minutes. It's the same. In your experience, how long do you think need to be wait?

Not that long .. I was talking seconds .. in your case, something is not right ..

Have you checked to see if mtx needs to be updated ? maybe you are running a broken version !.

Try other tools also as mt to check all your tape devices.

If you "sg_turs -v /dev/sgXX" before the initial 'mtx -f /dev/sgXX status' it will all work ;)

I've not tracked down if this is my problem or mtx....

But as it's only the initial query after a power-on/reset condition, I've not spent any effort into this.
