Tape devices not detected with NB 7.0

Albatross
Hi everyone,

Installed Mhvtl 1.1  version  successfully on linux 5.4 and they are visible with lssci -g
I have Installed Veritas Netbackup 7.0 on windows 2k3, when connected with iscsi My tape devices are not detected , The same tape devices are detected with 6.5 version without any issues..

Can anyone tell me why is this happening.. uninstalled and installed symantec tape device drivers which are in NB 6.5 But still didn't  work... My tape drivers are visible in device manger in win2k3.

       Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Cheers
Albatross...

Hi,

I think the drivers are the issue.

Try the drivers from IBM:

For Windows Server 2008:
http://delivery04.dhe.ibm.com/sar/CMA/STA/02o19/2/IBMTape.x86_w08_6218.zip - 32bit
http://delivery04.dhe.ibm.com/sar/CMA/STA/02o18/2/IBMTape.x64_w08_6218.zip - 64bit

For Windows Server 2003:
http://delivery04.dhe.ibm.com/sar/CMA/STA/02mq3/3/IBMTape.x86_6217.zip - 32bit
http://delivery04.dhe.ibm.com/sar/CMA/STA/02mq1/3/IBMTape.x64_6217.zip - 64bit

See README file first.

For either version unzip and run install_nonexclusive.exe and follow the instructions (this worked for me).

Then redo the discovery from within NBU.

Hope this helps.

You haven't specified if Win2k3 is 32 or 64bit.

I'm assuming that it's 32 bit as the SymanteTapeDeviceDrivers are for 32bit platform only.

Can you please supply the output of "lsscsi -g" on the Linux box, along with \volmgr\bin\scan from the windows box.

Additionally, the /etc/mhvtl/device.conf could be useful as well.

Cheers
Mark

OK, so how does the IET Controller end up being a 'Tape' device ??
The I/O errors above are not good.

I'd recommend rebooting windows - it's way, way confused.

Also can you pls supply the output of (from the Linux host):

# tgtadm --mode target --op show

Try the drivers from IBM:
http://delivery04.dhe.ibm.com/sar/CMA/STA/02o18/2/IBMTape.x64_w08_6218.zip
or
http://delivery04.dhe.ibm.com/sar/CMA/STA/02o19/2/IBMTape.x86_w08_6218.zip
depending on your OS arch.

For either version unzip and run install_nonexclusive.exe and follow the instructions.

Then redo the discovery from within NBU.

Hope this helps.

Careful... The above (W08 is the give away) are for Windows 2008.. They don't work on 2003... Took me way too long to realize....

Cheers

Hi Mark,

You were right.. I edited the post and added the correct download URLs for Win 2003 - x86 and x64.

Fact is these drivers have worked for me with NBU 7.0 on Win 2003 x64 (I suppose the 32bit should work either.)

It was a while ago, but I will try a rebuild of the environment to confirm.

Dragos
