Dear Mark and anyone,
Have a Manual for MHVTL configuration and operation? It is so sorry that I can understand all. Could anyone tell me what is about the map? How does it work? |
Hello, as in a physical library, the map is the Input/Output Station of the library. Is the Door where you place the Tape for the Checkin/Checkout operation. When you need to load a tape into the library , you need the vtlvmd XX open map vtlcmd XX load map "TAPE NAME" vtlcmd XX close map XX is the library id used in device.conf and reflected in library_contents.XX.conf Best Regards |

thanks!
and does tape will be auto create with the size that define in /etc/mhvtl/mhvhl.conf when first start the mhvtl? I am testing both mhvtl and cofio-vtl. and compare them. http://www.cofio.com/ViStor-Virtual-Tape-Library/ and I hope mhvtl can be use easy as cofio-vtl. |

i'd be very interested in any comparisons. I've designed the vtl for testing/proof of concept/demo/education/support in mind. Performance & production use have never been primary design concepts. i.e. mhvtl supports/has cleaning media, TapeAlert, MAP. things that don't really make sense for a production VTL Ease of use, feature set, usability reports/comparisons are more than welcome. I know you keep reminding us with this, but let's face it, most people here want to use it for production anyway ![]() nia |

Yep - It's just my way of a disclaimer :)
It's also a reminder of my priorities when thinking about new features / ideas etc.. The fact it "can be used" is just an additional bonus. Cheers On Thu, Jul 14, 2011 at 6:16 AM, nia [via MHVTL - Linux Virtual Tape Library - Community Forums] <[hidden email]> wrote:

Hi Mark, I agree with your disclaimer ..... I think that without a Team of people working on it, it is very difficult to release a software for production environment !!!! How many people are developing MHVTL ? Crippa Andrea |

Re: How many develop mhvtl..
OK, this is a little hard to quantify.. I do most of the code (normally traveling to/from work).. Which is why nothing much has progressed in the last couple of months. I'm still waiting on a replacement for my dead (work supplied) laptop. Several kind people (Sebastian, Kevan, Albert - are the main ones) provide additions/patches. Many help test and report bugs. To be honest, the testing/bug reporting is the difficult bit. I find, I tend to test the same way and hence don't find many of the bugs. Other people test in different ways, use different backup applications etc and have exposed all sorts of problems that would have never been found if it was left to myself. Of course, 'nia' has provided much to the mhvtl project. Setting up/running the forum, now with the web gui interface, testing etc.. |

The fun was started when I have tried mhvtl with TSM for the first time ![]() nia |
